WELCOME TO THE AD DANCE COMPETITION

We are more than just a dance competition; we are a celebration of talent, passion and the educational power of dance. Our competition is open to all ages, levels, and styles, making us one of the most inclusive platforms in the UK. But what truly sets us apart is our commitment to providing a full live show experience, complete with professional hosts, top industry judges and live feedback. Our competitors don't just perform, they grow, learning from industry professionals and gaining invaluable experience.

 

At The Aaron Dwyer Dance Competition, we don't just host competitions, we create opportunities for growth, learning and unforgettable performances.

Who can enter the Dance Competition?

At The AD Dance Competition, we pride ourselves on being the dance event for all ages and abilities. So whether you're younger or older, an advanced dancer or complete beginner - you'll be made to feel welcome at ADC.

AGE CATEGORIES

Dancers of any age can compete at The ADDC, which is why we set the standard with our competition age categories.

MINI - 8 yrs and under

JUNIOR - 9-11 yrs 

TEEN - 12-14 yrs 

SENIOR - 15-17 yrs

ADULT - 18+ yrs 

*Age is determined by how old you are on 1st September 2023

**Duo/Trio age is determined by the oldest dancer

***Groups are determined by the average age of the dancers

DANCE LEVELS

If you're a dancer that feels ready to compete, then you are ready to hit our stage! Our two dance level categories mean that we do as much as we can to group you with dancers of similar experience.

NOVICE

​

This category allows new dancers to experience the competition world and get a feel for performing onstage.

​

For entries with both of the following:

 -less than 2 years dancing experience

-no previous competition experience

​

NOVICE entries are not eligible for title awards. 

​

COMPETITIVE 

​

For experienced dancers with at least one of the following:

​

​

-2+ years of training 

  -Previous competition experience

​

 COMPETITIVE entries are eligible for all awards.

 

What types of routine can be performed at the Dance Competition?

We believe in variety, as it makes our dance comps some of the most inclusive in the UK. It's also true that by inviting a wide variety of dance styles - performed by anything from soloists to large groups - it makes the whole event a fantastic show for the spectators! 

DANCE STYLES EXPLAINED

ACRO / CHEERLEADING

 A routine that contains primarily gymnastic tricks, including, but not limited to walkover, front/back limbers, handstands, headstands, cartwheels, etc. there should be a blend of gymnastics and dance together.

BALLET 

A  routine that includes classical ballet steps and technique.

​

COMMERCIAL 

A  routine based on street movements or a derivative of this including commercial.

​

CONTEMPORARY 

A  routine that combines contemporary styles such as cunningham, graham, limone or hotron techniques. with lyrics to inspire movements to express emotions.

​

JAZZ

A  routine: that consists of jazz technique.

​

LYRICAL

A  combination of jazz & ballet techniques to slow music, incorporating emotion and story.

​

TAP

A  routine that must include tap technique - with no pre-recorded tap sounds in the music.

​

MUSICAL THEATRE DANCE

A routine that features any style of dance to interpret a number from a broadway show or movie musical.

​

OPEN

  Routines in this category can either be a combination of multiple genres, or ones that may not fall into any other dance division.

What makes The AD Dance Competition the UK's ultimate dance event?

LIVE AUDIO FEEDBACK

Feedback is a valuable part of our dance competitions, allowing industry professionals to give their comments live to every dancer.

As part of an entry with The Aaron Dwyer Dance Competition the dancer will receive individual audio feedback, which gives those dancers recognition of the areas that they performed well, plus vital tips on how to improve in the future.
